Medicine Rattles are sound healing tools, which often work with hand drums to clear energies and call in your spirit guides, helpers and allies.
The Story of the Medicine Rattle
Medicine Rattles are born from a conversation between the land, Spirit, and the maker.
The rawhide used in my rattles is not commercially produced. It is the leftover, the offcuts, the pieces that would otherwise be discarded. Instead of becoming waste, these pieces are gathered with care, honoured, and given new life.
The corn inside the rattles holds ancient symbolism of nourishment, life cycles, and sacred offering. The sound of the corn carries a grounding rhythm, connecting you to the heartbeat of the earth as well as Ceres: one of the Goddess Asteroids in the far outer reaches of our Solar System.
I sometimes include crystals inside the rattles. Each crystal is chosen for its energetic properties, to amplify healing, clear blockages, or align intentions.
The Medicine Rattle carries all these layers:
- the animal’s gift,
- a piece of one-tree
- the nourishment of corn,
- the crystal’s vibration,
- and the breath of the maker who sews it closed in ceremony.
Medicine Rattles are not simply instruments.

The sound of a rattle travels directly through the energy body, moving stagnant patterns and creating space for healing.
Each rattle is made individually, with presence and care.
The rawhide begins as offcut pieces that would otherwise go unused. I soak and prepare each piece, then hand-stitch the form closed, holding clear intention as I work.
Inside the rattle, I place a blend of corn, crystals, seeds or shells, chosen for their unique vibration and the energy they carry. The corn offers grounding; the crystals amplify healing and support, and the shells form emotional structure.
The handle is found or gifted timber, each one shaped and finished by hand.
Throughout the entire process, I hold sacred space, working in ceremony, prayer, and alignment with the person or purpose the rattle may serve.
Each rattle carries its own voice, waiting for the hands it was meant for.

The rawhide is from offcuts that would otherwise be discarded, allowing me to honour and repurpose what would be lost. The crystals, corn, and woods are selected respectfully, often gathered locally or sourced through trusted suppliers.
Care Instructions: Avoid moisture, store in a dry place, and keep it protected when not in use. Help protect the rattle when travelling, they can be dinted and loose their shape.
