Local government is democracy exercised in our own communities. We elect councillors and mayors in the cities in which we live. It is important as city residents to know whether our local government is making decisions in the best interest of our communities. We can only do so if we understand the decision making process in our city councils. Local government functions best when it is connected to its grassroots.
Since the 18th century, we have made great strides in improving the quality of life for humankind. The industrial revolutions which made this possible sadly have had a negative effect on our environment. We must live sustainably, ensuring that what we take from nature we put back in full measure.
